A post reportedly being shared on social media that alludes to threats toward two area stores is being investigated by police and the FBI.

Details what the Facebook post contained were not disclosed, but were not believed to be credible by the FBI.

The Jamestown Police Department on Friday released a statement on the post, stating it suggested threats to Tops Markets on Foote Avenue in Jamestown and Walmart on Fairmount Avenue in Lakewood.

“The threats are being investigated by various law enforcement entities including the Federal Bureau of Investigation,” Jamestown police said. “At this time, the FBI does not believe that there are any credible threats to the establishments.”

The mention of a threat, even rumored on social media, comes amid heightened awareness of public gatherings following the May 24 mass shooting that left 10 Black people dead at a Buffalo Tops Markets. Just 10 days later, 19 students and two teachers were killed at a Texas elementary school.

“We will continue to monitor these situations and request that anyone with information on who may be responsible for the threats to contact us or their local law enforcement agency,” Jamestown police said. “As always, if you see something, say something.”

Anyone with information is asked to call the JPD tip line at 716-483-TIPS (8477).
