Man Charged In Route 60 Head-On Crash

An Angola man faces a host of charges following a head-on crash this morning on Route 60.

The crash occurred around 7 a.m. in the town of Charlotte. In addition to Chautauqua County sheriff’s deputies, members of the Sinclairville Fire Department also responded to Route 60, between Moon and Luce roads.

An investigation found that a southbound pickup truck, being driven by 49-year-old John H. Lemke was reportedly passing another vehicle in a “clearly marked no pass zone” when it struck a northbound heavy duty construction head-on, the Sheriff’s Office said in a news release.

The collision caused significant damage to both vehicles.

The driver of the construction vehicle, which also was hauling a trailer, was taken to Brooks Memorial Hospital to be checked. Three other occupants of the heavy duty vehicle refused treatment.

Lemke also was taken to Brooks for treatment of undisclosed injuries.

A check found that Lemke’s license had 10 suspensions and revocations. He is facing charges of second-degree aggravated unlicensed operation — alcohol related, switched plates, unsafe passing and failure to keep right, among other traffic violations.

Starting at $3.50/week.
