Westfield Struggling With Systemwide Power Outage

WESTFIELD — The Westfield Electric system, which serves about 3,300 residential and commercial customers, was working to restore power after an outage that began at around 9:20 p.m. Wednesday.

On its Facebook page, the village reported the pole where the power outage is located off road. “This location is difficult to reach and can only be accessed by tracked equipment. A contractor is headed our way with the required equipment, and we expect them to be at the location shortly,” the post noted.

Due to the outage, the Westfield Academy and Central Schools were closed Thursday morning.

Earlier in the morning, the village noted that National Grid discovered a problem with a switch at their Finley Road Switch Station. The village’s incoming transmission line is fed through that station.

“Our employees have been dealing with this for many hours now,” the village wrote in a post. “We are very proud of them and value their extraordinary hard work and dedication during a challenging outage. We are truly blessed by the fact that we actually have very few outages and when we do have one, they are typically very short lived. Thank you to our entire Electric Department for your hard work during this outage.”
