Three out-of-state residents wanted on warrants for attempted homicide charges in nearby North East, Pa., were taken into custody at a hotel near Interstate 86 in the town of Ellicott.

James A. Terrell, 28, of Erie, Pa.; Mark R. Smith, 32, of Albion, Pa.; and Sammy Carrasquillo Jr., 18, of Cleveland, Ohio, were transported to Chautauqua County Jail for centralized arraignment after a search warrant was executed Tuesday at Clarion Pointe Hotel, 2800 N. Main St.

According to a news release by the Sheriff’s Office, U.S. Marshal’s had information that Terrell, Smith and Carrasquillo — all wanted as fugitives from justice on charges of attempted criminal homicide — were at the hotel. Members of the Southern Tier Regional Drug Task Force, Jamestown Metro Drug Task Force and Ellicott Police Department executed a warrant at the North Main Street property Tuesday around 4 p.m.

One of the three suspects was located in the hotel’s parking lot while the other two were found inside the hotel room.

Inside, authorities also recovered 22 ounces of methamphetamine, about 7 grams of fentanyl, 1 gram of cocaine and $600. The discovery led to charges of second-degree criminal use of drug paraphernalia, second-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance and two counts of third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance for the trio.

The attempted homicide charges, according to the Erie Times News, are the result of a Dec. 28 incident in North East Township in which Terrell, Smith and Carrasquillo allegedly beat and shot a 21-year-old Erie, Pa., man. A fourth suspect has already been arraigned on charges and remains in Erie County Jail, the newspaper reported.

The victim told police he was attacked in a car then driven to a wooden area in North East where the attack occurred, the Erie Times News said. After being shot, the 21-year-old went to a nearby home and was later transported to a nearby hospital.
