MAYVILLE — New information regarding the discovery of two sets of human remains last week in the town of Portland will soon be provided.

A press conference has been set for 9:30 a.m. Thursday in Mayville, Chautauqua County Sheriff James Quattrone said. News from the conference will be shared by The Post-Journal as it’s made available.

One set of remains were found the evening of Sept. 26 by a woman who had been looking for keys she had lost previously near the Chautauqua Rails to Trails system on Woleben Road in Portland. Quattrone said the body, believed to be of a woman, appears to have been buried at the site for a while.

The following day, another set of remains were found. Both were being analyzed by anthropology officials at Mercyhurst in Erie, Pa.
