Jamestown High School is one of several school systems to fall prey to a school threat post making the rounds on social media.

Jamestown Public Schools parents have received notice of an unsubstantiated threat about Jamestown High School that had been circulating on Snapchat.

According to the notice, school administrators, working with the Jamestown Police Department, FBI and the school resource officer, found the Snapchat post was referencing Jupiter High School in Florida and was subsequently reposted locally on social media.

“At no time were Jamestown High school students or staff in danger. The Jamestown Police Department and SRO continue to be involved and are following up as appropriate,” the email states.

A Jupiter High School, Fla., student was arrested Tuesday for posting the original threat. The Martin County Sheriff’s Office in Florida posted on its Facebook page that it had received complaints about a potential school threat on social media.

“After an investigation, it was determined that the threat was to a school outside of Martin County,” the post stated. “MCSO made contact with investigators in Palm Beach County who were immediately able to track the source of the post and make an arrest. The student said he made the post as a joke. In an effort to control rumors, we want parents to know that the issue has been resolved, and that there is no threat to schools in Martin County.”

Making threats against a school is a second-degree felony in Florida and is also a felony crime in New York.
