KENNEDY — No injuries were reported, but a home was destroyed in a massive fire that broke out early Saturday in the town of Poland.

Kennedy firefighters were alerted to the blaze at 615 Eccles Road at 2:19 a.m. Kennedy Fire Chief Keith Bean, who lives two houses down from the scene, said he arrived to find the front corner of the multi-story property already engulfed by flames.

Volunteers from surrounding districts were called to assist, including Falconer, Frewsburg, Ellington, Kiantone and Randolph along with Chautauqua County EMS. “By the time they got up here and we got going the whole front was pretty much going,” Bean said.

Everyone managed to escape the fire, which ultimately leveled the home with just a garage still standing. Crews remained on scene as of 9 a.m., and deputies with the Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office could be seen walking around the property.

Bean said he knows the homeowners personally. “It’s tough — it’s really tough,” he said. “I’m up here all the time with them. So yeah, it’s a tough one.”
