Spots Open For NYS Sheriff’s Summer Camp

Chautauqua County Sheriff's Office

The New York State Sheriff’s Summer Camp, located in Finger Lakes region on Keuka Lake, is for boys and girls between the ages of 9 and 12 who, because of economic reasons would not have an opportunity to attend a summer camp or enjoy a summer vacation.

The camp is for economically challenged children. Transportation to and from the camp will be provided along with meals. Each county sheriff’s office is given a per-determined number of camper slots. Sheriff’s Offices use a variety of methods to identify deserving children to attend. The primary criteria is economically challenged children and children who can benefit with the positive interaction with deputy sheriffs.

New York state has announced that the Summer Camps will be allowed to operate; however, it’s not known what COVID precautions will be in place. Currently, there are 13 openings for campers from Chautauqua County. Chautauqua County is scheduled for week 3 – July 11 to July 17 — and allotted 15 spots for eight boys and seven girls. In order to fill the allotted spots, the deadline has been extended to June 1.

“As we approach full camp capacity, it is necessary to have the number of girls and boys designated so that we have the proper staffing and beds available for all campers,” the Sheriff’s Office said. “Campers should be between the ages of 9 and 12 while attending camp — born between Aug. 1, 2008 and June 1, 2012.”
