A garage was destroyed and a trailer damaged in an overnight fire that broke out in the town of Poland.

No injuries were reported after crews were summoned around 1:05 a.m. Thursday to 2099 Page Road. Members of the Kennedy and Frewsburg fire departments were first called, and heavy smoke and flames coming from a garage were reported by fire officials upon arrival.

Keith Bean, Kennedy fire chief, said the garage was fully engulfed by flames and quickly called for a second alarm — sending firefighters from Randolph, Falconer, Kiantone, Ellington and Busti to the scene.

A portion of a nearby trailer caught fire due to its proximity to the garage. Firefighters doused the trailer to prevent further spread of the fire, Bean said.

“Lucky for us it wasn’t too windy or it may have carried it to the trailer more. The damage could have been a lot worse,” Bean said.

Crews were on scene for a couple of hours, then returned later in the morning after smoke was spotted coming from the trailer.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Bean thanked the firefighters who responded early in the morning. “It was great to see everyone there who helped,” he said. “That’s our mutual aid that we need and always great to have it.”
