Falconer Man Charged Following Larceny, Crash

A Falconer man is facing felony grand larceny charges for taking items from a town of Ellicott business, along with a host of other charges for an unrelated crash that occurred the following day.

Ellicott police on Monday took a complaint in which building materials from an undisclosed business were taken. An investigation found that 29-year-old Blaydon F. Niles took the items — valued at over $1,000 — without permission,

On Tuesday, officers responded to the Willard Street area after receiving word of several mailboxes that had been damaged. It was found that Niles was driving a pickup truck on East Willard Street Extension when he went off the road and struck a cluster of mailboxes.

The Falconer man was not found at the scene; the wrecked vehicle, however, was located by New York state troopers abandoned near Quaint Road around 12:30 a.m.

Niles was additionally charged with driving on a suspended license, operating without insurance, operating an unregistered vehicle, leaving the scene of a property damage accident, and fourth-degree criminal mischief.
