Suspect Linked To Dunkirk Stabbings Found In Pennsylvania

DUNKIRK — An incident that led to the stabbings of two individuals in the area of Park Avenue in the city of Dunkirk is still an ongoing investigation, but there is a suspect.

“The individual that we identified as the defendant has been charged in the city of Dunkirk with first-degree assault and was picked up in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania,” county District Attorney Jason Schmidt told the OBSERVER Wednesday. “We are now handling extradition proceedings to bring that individual back to New York.”

Last Thursday evening two helicopters were summoned to the city of Dunkirk after first responders were alerted to two victims found within minutes with reported stab wounds.

The first person, described by Chautauqua County dispatch as a male, was located around 7:40 p.m. in the area of Park Avenue and East Sixth Street. The second victim, located about 10 minutes later, was found nearby in the area of Deer Street.

Early indication from scanner reports noted that each victim may have stabbed the other.

At least one of those injured was taken to the Dunkirk airport to be transported by MercyFlight to a nearby trauma center. The Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office was asked to respond to the airport.
