FALCONER — M&T Bank announced it is closing its branch located in the village of Falconer. The 20 W. Main St. location will officially close June 10, an M&T spokeswoman confirmed Wednesday, who noted that customers were told of the plans earlier this month.

“Customers who utilized the Falconer branch can bank at the ATM that will remain in Falconer, at the nearby Jamestown-South Side Branch, which is 3 miles away, or at any other M&T branch or ATM,” said Julia Berchou.

She said all five of the employees of the Falconer location are being given competitive severance packages, based on tenure, and priority to fill positions in other branches or other available roles within the bank, including work-from-home positions.

“They’ve done great work for our customers, and we’d love to keep them with our company,” said Berchou, noting that two of the employees will be moving to the Jamestown branch, “so our customers can expect to see some of the same familiar faces when they visit their new branch.”

Berchou also noted that while many customers still prefer personal interactions while banking, routine financial transactions are moving more and more online.

“We continually optimize our branch network to meet evolving customer needs, identifying locations where we need to locate a new branch or ATM, where we should invest in expanding or remodeling a branch location, and where we have branches that are no longer positioned to effectively and efficiently serve our customers,” she said. “In those situations, we often look to consolidate offices — not only to improve our efficiency, but also to ensure we’re best positioned to continue to serve customers for the long-term.

“The decision to close or consolidate branches is never easy, especially during this difficult time. We know how important access to banking services is to our communities – which is one of the big reasons we’ve invested so much and our teams have worked so hard to add new capabilities and develop new skills that enable us to better serve people wherever they are – with online, mobile and telephone banking.”

Starting at $3.50/week.
