For the second time in as many attempts, U.S. Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand has canceled a scheduled stop in Dunkirk due to the weather.

Gillibrand was slated to be at Dunkirk’s City Hall before 1:30 p.m. to call for robust Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program funding in the next coronavirus relief package in order to provide critical assistance for low-income households and seniors.

However, the Senator’s office announced around 12:30 p.m. that the stop was “cancelled due to weather.”

In October, Gillibrand was set to appear at the Dunkirk Boardwalk Market to call for legislation to support small- and mid-sized businesses that were struggling to recover after a summer of limited operations due to the coronavirus crisis. That even also was canceled due to rain in the forecast.

The state’s junior U.S. Senator did appear in August of last year with local officials at the FeedMore WNY Distribution Center in Falconer to push for an extension of Pandemic EBT and expansion of Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program benefits.

Gillibrand also had expressed hopes at the gathering that schools could reopen safely.

“As a mother, I can see the detrimental effect kids not being in school has,” she said. “Teachers are working overtime to provide distance learning, but it’s very difficult.”
