Highest Wind Gust In Region At 69 MPH, Weather Service Notes

Sunday’s worst winds came Sunday during the evening hours, according to the National Weather Service readings.

The highest recorded wind gust was in Fredonia at 69 mph at 8 p.m. That reading was the highest in Western New York with Buffalo reporting the same speed at 8:12 p.m.

Dunkirk gusts were recorded at 68 mph and 63 mph around 5 p.m. Randolph had a reading of 63 mph. Jamestown Airport reported 55 mph at 3:23, when most of the city’s power outages occurred. Ripley had a gust of 49 mph.

Area crews continue to work at restoring power today and cleaning up downed trees.
