Driver Charged In Last Week’s East Fifth Street Hit-And-Run

Nicholas Evans

Nicholas S. Evans, 27, of Jamestown was charged Friday with leaving the scene of a personal injury accident and several vehicle and traffic charges after an accident Thursday near 336 East Fifth Street.

According to a police report, the 2-year-old boy who was struck has a broken leg and was treated at UPMC Chautauqua WCA and released.

According to a Jamestown Police Department report, the child was struck while walking along the side of East Fifth Street with the child’s family. The driver allegedly did not stop, continuing into a parking lot at East Fourth and East Second streets where a group of people who saw the accident approached the vehicle and broke out the driver’s side window to the vehicle. The driver, who then reportedly feared harm to himself, drove away again and stopped in a lot on Franklin Street, where police officers found him.

Evans will be in Jamestown City Court later.
