County: 12 COVID Cases Tied To Private Event

At least 12 cases of COVID-19 reported this week by the Chautauqua County Department of Health have been linked to a private event in the north county.

In an update Friday, the department said it is still investigating the cluster of cases, but did not provide specifics — other than to say the cluster is related to a “private event.”

On Friday, 12 new cases of the coronavirus were reported, with two in the Jamestown zip code, two in Cassadaga, four in Dunkirk, two in Frewsburg, one in Forestville and one in Fredonia.

There were 128 total active cases as of Friday.

In regard to an outbreak at Tanglewood Manor, the county Health Department said there remains 10 active cases among employees and 45 active cases among residents associated with the adult-care facilities; to date, 51 people tied to the outbreak have recovered.

There remains 16 people with COVID-19 who are hospitalized, in addition to 795 recoveries, 13 deaths and 936 total confirmed cases.

In Cattaraugus County, health officials on Thursday reported its 16th COVID-19-related death — a 52-year-old man who developed respiratory failure. “We extend our deepest condolences to his family and the entire Cattaraugus County community,” the county Health Department said.

Five new COVID-19 cases were reported Thursday in Cattaraugus County, bringing the total to 387.
