BPU Warns Customers Of New Scam Attempts

Customers with the Jamestown Board of Public Utilities have reported two new recent scams.

In the first scam, someone calls to say they are from the Jamestown BPU and offers rebates to the customer. To receive such a rebate, the customer must supply personal and bank information.

In the second scam, a caller says they are from the “electric company” in Jamestown and offers 30% off rates.

“Neither of these scams are legitimate calls from the BPU and customers are warned not to give personal information over the phone,” the BPU said in a statement. “The BPU would not call and ask for this information. Customers should be aware.”
