Fredonia Courtroom To Be Named For Prince

David Prince

Fredonia’s Village Board has decided to remember a longtime jurist in a proper way.

At the workshop prior to the meeting on Monday, Trustee Roger Britz suggested the village courtroom be renamed and dedicated in Judge David Prince’s name. Prince resigned as village justice on June 29 and passed away a mere three days later.

“I would like to make a suggestion that we move forward in maybe dedicating the courtroom in his name and his honor for all the years of service that he has done for us,” Britz stated. “Maybe we could do some small ceremony with a plaque dedicating the courthouse in memory of Judge Prince.”

“I was thinking the same thing, perhaps with a dedication ceremony,” Trustee Kara Christina chimed in.

“I think it would be a way for us as a community to honor his service and the many years that he brought forth to our community,” Britz added.

Following a brief discussion Fredonia Mayor Doug Essek agreed.

“It’d be a very small expense for a plaque for recognition and I could gather a ceremony in the near future,” Essek said.

A moment of silence was observed for Judge Prince following the Pledge of Allegiance later in the evening.

At the meeting, Nancy Dietzen was appointed village justice. Her position would run until the end of the year at the same rate of pay as the prior judge. Michael Cerrie will be filling the village associate judge position since Dietzen is moving up to village justice.

Both were approved unanimously.
