Storm Downs Trees, Branches In Area
Kimberly Larson was inside her Pleasantview Drive home in Jamestown when a powerful storm moved into the area.
Within a few minutes, the county 911 dispatch center received reports of downed trees and branches, causing some to lose power. For others, like Larson, the storm caused significant damage.
“It was terrifying. I thought it was a rolling crack of thunder that shook the entire house,” said Larson after a tree uprooted and landed on her home. “It fell on my daughter’s bedroom. At first we didn’t understand the extent of the damage. You just thought, ‘Oh, a tree limb fell,’ and then we couldn’t get out the front door.”
Larson was outside Thursday morning surveying the damage. She said the same tree was just trimmed Monday.
“It was a really healthy tree. We had no concerns about that,” she said.
Crews with the Jamestown Board of Public Utilities were out overnight addressing power outages caused by high winds, downed trees and power lines. In a news release, the BPU said a circuit tripped at 11:24 p.m., impacting about 476 customers in the Winsor and East Second street area. Linemen isolated the problem and restored power to all but 29 customers by 1 a.m.
A broken pole on East Second Street, at the intersection of East Fourth and East Fifth streets, was repaired to restore power to the remaining 29 customers.
The BPU said primary lines fell on Hillcrest, off Hallock Street, leaving the block of 16 customers without power until 5 a.m. A crew at North Main Street and Irvine replaced a pole, and a transformer had to be disconnected affecting customers there around 6 a.m. in order to fix a pole.
