Jamestown High School’s 2020 graduation ceremony is expected to take place at Strider Field on Thursday, June 25, with a rain date of Friday, June 26.

The district is planning a ceremony that adheres to safety requirements for social distancing and limits on gatherings of more than 10 people. Jamestown High School will soon be providing more specific details to students and families about the ceremony, including scheduled times for students and families to visit Strider Field to receive their diploma.

“We gathered input from our students and their families to try to put together a graduation ceremony that also follows all social distancing and limits on any gatherings requirements due to COVID-19,” said JHS Principal Dana Williams. “Our main concern is the safety and well-being of our students and their families while at the same time, celebrating their accomplishment of each student graduating from JHS. We are working on the specific details for the ceremony and will be sending out that information to students and parents.”

In addition to the ceremony at Strider Field, graduation speeches will be recorded in advance and aired on JPS’ website/social media on Wednesday, June 24.

“With all that has happened to our seniors this year, we wanted to ensure that they are able to celebrate their graduation in a safe and meaningful way,” said JPS Superintendent Dr. Bret Apthorpe. “I know that Mr. Williams and his staff have worked extremely hard to develop a plan that allows every student to celebrate their accomplishment in a significant way, but also keeping within the social distancing and gathering restrictions required at this time. We are all very proud of the JHS Class of 2020 and want to ensure that their accomplishment is recognized, but in the safest way possible.”
