Jamestown fire investigators are looking into the cause of a fire that destroyed a home late Tuesday.
Firefighters were summoned to 43 Adams St. shortly after 11 p.m. and arrived to find the structure fully engulfed by flames.
Daniel Dolan, who has owned the home for 22 years, said a neighbor ran into the property to warn him of the blaze as he and his family slept.
“As we were coming down our stairwell, the whole front of our house was completely engulfed,” Dolan told The Post-Journal on Wednesday morning as he surveyed the damage. “He came into our home to get us out.”
No injuries were immediately reported.
Crews remained on scene for several hours battling the fire; off-duty firefighters were called in to assist.
The home sustained significant damage and will require an emergency demolition, said Crystal Surdyk, city development director. A neighboring property also sustained heat damage to its siding.
The local chapter of the American Red Cross is assisting the Dolan family.
“We took pride in our home,” Dolan said of seeing the damage, and later added of what his plans were next, “Don’t know. Don’t have a prayer and don’t have a whim because I’m wearing (my neighbor’s clothes) right now.”
