1 New Case Of Virus Confirmed In County; 22 Total

MAYVILLE — Eleven residents in Chautauqua County have fully recovered from the coronavirus. That’s according to County Executive PJ Wendel who spoke during a press conference Thursday in Mayville.

Wendel also said one additional case of the virus has been confirmed, bringing the total to 22. The new case involves a male in his 20s.

To date, 117 county residents remain under quarantine or isolation due the COVID-19 pandemic, while 256 tests have come back negative.

Christine Schuyler, director of the county Health and Human Services department, said testing rates remain low locally; she said anyone showing symptoms should still contact their health care provider.

“It’s been frustrated for us not to be able to test like we would want,” Schuyler said.

The public health director did say she believes that social distancing has made a difference locally.

Asked about when the county might see its apex in terms of those getting the virus, Wendel said it’s hard to say. He noted the drop in hospitalizations and those requiring ventilation.
