Jamestown parks will remain open, but the city will begin closing access to playground equipment and basketball courts tomorrow morning.

Mayor Eddie Sundquist made the announcement at the end of tonight’s Jamestown City Council meeting. A formal announcement will be made Tuesday, Sundquist said, before expounding on the closure in brief remarks tonight.

“There will be an announcement made tomorrow morning that the parks staff has been instructed to cordon off and close all playground equipment at city parks and to put up signage at this time that basketball courts will be closed. As the weather is getting nicer you see more and more individuals are using the playground equipment, which has been shown to help spread COVID-19. So in response we will be closing down the equipment in our parks. However the parks remain open and we encourage all of our public to go hike and walk and use our 500 acres of park land. Just stay apart from each other. With 500 acres, you can find a good spot to stay away from other people.”
