UPDATE: 1 Killed In Route 60 Crash
FREDONIA — An 8-year-old girl was killed in a multi-vehicle crash Monday afternoon in the town of Pomfret.
According to Capt. Eric Balon of the New York State Police, a northbound red sedan on Route 60 stopped to make a left-turn into a parking lot when it was struck from behind by a four-door Chrysler. The collision pushed the sedan into the path of southbound semi tractor-trailer.
Balon said the child was ejected from the vehicle and sustained significant trauma. She was transported to Brooks Memorial Hospital where she pronounced dead.
First responders from Fredonia and Cassadaga as well as Chautauqua County EMS responded to the scene. Route 60, between Lakeview and Wilson roads, was closed to traffic for several hours.
The crash remains under investigation.
