BPU Warns Public Of Phone Scam

The Jamestown Board of Public Utilities is once again warning the public of a phone scam.

The BPU said it was aware of the scam and is advising “customers to take care.”

“In this case, a caller claims to be from the BPU, saying the customer was overcharged and that the caller is checking to be sure the money was refunded to the customer bank account,” the BPU said in a news release. “In the process of the call, customers are asked for bank account numbers and other personal financial information.”

The BPU said it is not making such calls and customers receiving them should hang up on the caller.
