BPU Warns Of Potential Scam

The Jamestown Board of Public Utilities is warning the public of a potential scam.

In a news release Monday, the BPU said a customer new to the area received a call stating she owed $200 and that her utilities would be shut off if she didn’t immediately pay a person posing as an employee.

“Customers should remember that they can initiate BPU bill payments in our Customer Service Office, online, in our drop boxes and by phone,” the BPU said. “The BPU does not call people and threaten to turn them off if payment isn’t made immediately to a private person. Customers should hang up the phone in such a situation.”
