Man Charged Following Rash Of Burglaries

An “extensive investigation” into burglaries reported over two months in the towns of Ripley, Pomfret and Gerry netted charges against a 51-year-old Forestville man.

Gary Lang was issued appearance tickets Friday on charges of two counts of second-degree burglary, five counts of petit larceny, third-degree criminal tampering and trespassing. The Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office said its had received numerous reports of burglaries in the months of November and December.

“After an extensive investigation by the Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office, Gary Lang was found to be responsible for a number of crimes within the above listed townships,” the Sheriff’s Office said in a news release. “Gary Lang did unlawfully enter two separate dwellings at night while the residents were asleep inside and stole property. Gary Lang did also steal property from several unlocked vehicles.”

Lang is scheduled to appear in local town courts to answer the charges.

“The Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office reminds country residents to lock their homes and vehicles in order to deter crime.”
