MAYVILLE — The Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office raised $5,000 toward the purchase of a therapy dog for the Child Advocacy Program.

The money was collected after 125 members from the Sheriff’s Office participated in “No Shave November.”

“We are so grateful for this generous donation. It has been a longtime dream to have a dog at CAP,” said Beth Oakes, executive director. “The presence of a quiet, gentle specially trained dog offers a source of comfort to a child while he or she is sharing a very traumatic experience with a perfect stranger.”

Unions involved in the fundraiser included corrections officers, full-time patrol, part-time deputies and the lieutenants union. Management and dispatch also participated.

“No Shave November was an opportunity to give back to our community,” Sheriff Jim Quattrone said. “To be able to assist in the purchase of a therapy dog for the Child Advocacy Program is something the members of the Sheriff’s Office can be proud of.”

Anyone interested in supporting the project is asked to contact Oakes at 338-9844.
