(11:30 AM) Sheriff’s Office Issues Warning On Phone Scams

The Cattaraugus County Sheriff’s Office issued a warning Wednesday regarding recent phone scams.

In a news release, the Sheriff’s Office said: “The person is claiming to be a representative of the Social Security Bureau. They are requesting that you provide the last four digits of your Social Security number and send money to them to clear up an alleged warrant for your arrest. The caller gave detailed information such as a badge number, case number and a warrant number claiming that the warrant is from the state of Texas. Do not release any personal information over the phone. If such a call is received, residents are encouraged to call their local police agency.”
