(6:37 PM) City Man Pleads Guilty To Possession Of Child Porn

A Jamestown man pleaded guilty to receipt and possession of child pornography, the U.S. Attorney’s Office said.

Matthew Bailer, 34, entered the plea Friday before Chief U.S. District Judge Frank P. Geraci Jr.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Elizabeth R. Moellering, who has handling the case, stated that on July 11, 2018, the Jamestown Police Department received a complaint from a parent that her minor children may have been sexually abused by Bailer. The parent said she was told by Bailer’s sister that a series of concerning pictures, sexual in nature, were sent on a Nokia cellphone reportedly used by Bailer.

The city man was taken into custody on a warrant out of Missouri related to a burglary case. During a search of the Nokia phone, investigators recovered “several hundred images of images of child pornography involving sexually explicit conduct by prepubescent and pubescent children,” the U.S. Attorney’s Office said.

Friday’s plea was the result of an investigation by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Jamestown Police Department.

Sentencing is scheduled for Feb. 20, 2020, at 3 p.m. before Geraci. The charges carry a mandatory minimum penalty of five years in prison, a maximum of life and a $250,000 fine.
