(Update: 9:23 AM) Police Identify Man Killed In I-86 Crash
The Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a fatal two-car crash on Interstate 86 early Wednesday.
Deputies and volunteer firefighters were called to the interstate in the town of North Harmony around 4:10 a.m. Upon arrival, fire officials found one of the vehicles involved on its roof.
The driver of the vehicle, 66-year-old Tommy L. Hyde of Warsaw, Wyoming County, was pronounced dead at the scene, the Sheriff’s Office said in a statement.
The crash took place in the eastbound lane. The interstate was closed for several hours at the Panama-Stedman Road exit.
A county coroner was summoned to the scene, as were firefighters from Ashville, Bemus Point and Chautauqua.
Members of the county HAZMAT Team, Fire Police Team and County EMS also responded.
