UPDATE: Emergency Demolition Ordered After Home Destroyed By Fire
An emergency demolition has been ordered, and the American Red Cross is assisting, after a fire heavily damaged a city home Wednesday.
Vince DeJoy, city development director, said he planned to order the demolition for 618 Pine St. after the fire was reported around 6:20 a.m.
A woman who lived at the home managed to escape the blaze.
Jamestown firefighters arrived to find heavy smoke and fire coming from the property.
A neighbor who lived up the street came across the homeowner yelling for help. She quickly called 911.
“It’s terrible,” said the neighbor, Evelyn Fluent. “She’s lost everything. I feel really bad for her.”
Crews, including Jamestown police, remained on scene for several hours. The cause of the fire wasn’t immediately known.
The homeowner is being assisted by the local chapter of the Red Cross.
