FALCONER — A Falconer woman who notified police of an alleged kidnapping attempt in late July is now facing charges of falsely reporting an incident.

The Ellicott Police Department on Wednesday announced that an appearance ticket had been issued to 21-year-old Tracey E. Dalton.

The charges — third-degree falsely reporting an incident and making a punishable false written statement — are the result of an investigation into a kidnapping attempt Dalton said took place in Falconer Park on July 24.

However, police found no evidence to support the claim.

“We looked at security cameras in the park, and that pretty much revealed what happened,” said William Ohnmeiss Jr., chief of the Ellicott Police Department. “She was in the park, but there was zero evidence (of a kidnapping attempt).”

Ohnmeiss said it wasn’t known why the claim was made to police.

Dalton is scheduled to appear in Ellicott Town Court on Aug. 29 to answer the charges.
