(12:55 PM) Man Indicted On Attempted Murder, Assault Charges In Drive-By Shooting

Rasul N. Bonds

A Chautauqua County grand jury has indicted 30-year-old Rasul N. Bonds following a Jan. 30 drive-by shooting in Jamestown in which one person was shot in the face.

Bonds, a Jamestown resident, was indicted on three counts of attempted murder and one count of first-degree assault.

The shooting took place around 2:40 a.m. at the corner of North Main and West Ninth streets in Jamestown. Police said a male was shot in the face as he and two other people were walking toward North Main Street. The man was taken to UPMC Hamot for serious injuries; an update on his condition wasn’t released in a statement by JPD on Monday.

Capt. Robert Samuelson of the Jamestown Police Department said the shooting was “targeted” and not a random act of violence.

The motive, Samuelson said, was due to “an ongoing dispute” but couldn’t release further information due to an ongoing investigation.

“We have worked for multiple days on this investigation with all of our staff being involved,” he said. “This was an extremely dangerous situation that could have resulted in three deaths. We therefore take these types of cases very seriously.”

Rasul was remanded to Chautauqua County Jail on $150,000 cash, $300,000 property bond. Jamestown police said additional charges are expected.
