Dewittville Man Jailed After Robbing With Crossbow

CHAUTAUQUA — A Dewittville man was jailed after police said he threatened several people with a crossbow before committing robbery Tuesday evening.

Charged was 25-year-old Jerome A. Rogerson after Chautauqua County sheriff’s deputies were called at about 6 p.m to a Beech Hill Road location in the town of Chautauqua for a report of a robbery. Police said Rogerson threatened multiple people with a crossbow and damaged a car.

Rogerson also allegedly grabbed someone’s neck, causing undisclosed injury, and “interfered with multiple subjects calling 911,” the Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office said in a press release early Wednesday.

The Dewittville man reportedly took property before fleeing the area. He was later located and taken into custody.

Rogerson was arraigned in Chautauqua Town Court and remanded to Chautauqua County Jail without bail. He was charged with second-degree robbery, third-degree criminal mischief, endangering the welfare of a child, second-degree menacing, two counts of fourth-degree criminal mischief and criminal obstruction of breathing.

Rogerson was charged in January after deputies responded to a Main Street home in Brocton for an unwanted man. When deputies arrived, Rogerson was reportedly in possession of a small amount of methamphetamine.
