Westfield students lay wreath at Tomb of Unknown Soldier

1 min read

The Westfield Teachers Association sponsored a wreath for Westfield Academy and Central School eighth graders to lay at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier at Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, Va., as part of their trip to Gettysburg and Washington, D.C., trip.

The Tomb of the Unknown Soldier represents the many who sacrificed and whose remains could not be identified. The wreath was laid in honor and memory of all veterans from Westfield and was an opportunity for Westfield eighth graders to demonstrate their gratitude and learn about the meaning of sacrifice. Students Adalyn Reese and Eleanor Maras helped place the wreath along with their teachers Amanda Reese and Steve Holmberg.

"This was a memorable and meaningful opportunity for the entire class which hopefully makes them recognize the responsibility of their generation to never forget those who gave all," Westfield officials said in a news release.
