Cody Hiller, violin, and Joan Eighmey, piano, are pictured performing during a recent Mozart Club meeting at the Marvin House.

The Mozart Club met recently at the Marvin House to hear a concert by the Philomel Club of Warren, Pa.

The Philomel Club sponsors public concerts and supports young musicians. The performers were Cody Hiller on violin and Joan Eighmey on piano. Hiller is the head of the high school music program at Southwestern Central School and is a member of the chamber music ensemble in Warren who has played with the Allegheny String Quartet. Eighmey studied piano performance and literature at the Eastman School of Music in Rochester and does private piano lessons. She has performed at Carnegie Hall and at the White House.

The duo performed Cesar Frank's violin Sonata in A major in four movements. It uses a cyclic form, meaning a core musical theme or motif introduced early on and recurring, and transforming across all four movements to unify the entire piece.

The next program of the Mozart Club will be Wednesday, Nov. 11, at the Marvin Community House. The musical program will be by Amber Shay Nicholson, pianist.
