The Marvin House invites the public to its Festival of Trees open house on Nov. 19 from 4 to 7 p.m. at 2 W. Fifth St., Jamestown.
Admission is free. Visitors can explore 12 decorated Christmas trees adorned with rare and distinctive ornaments donated by a lifelong collector. Seven trees will be displayed on the first floor and five on the second floor. Also look for eight festive wreaths, and seven mantels decorated with Santas and Christmas nutcrackers throughout the house.
There will also be seasonal decorations, holiday music, Christmas cookies and beverages. Handicap access and assistance will be available.
"Whether drawn to cherished Christmas traditions, vintage collectibles, or festive holiday décor, visitors will discover something special at the Marvin House's Festival of Trees," Marvin House members said in a news release.
The fashion show is part of the Marvin House’s year-long Diamond Jubilee celebration, marking 75 years as a women’s organization in Chautauqua County.
The story of the Marvin House began with Elizabeth Warner Marvin, a woman who understood the importance of providing women with a place to gather, learn, share ideas, and pursue their interests. Mrs. Marvin was actively involved in literary, musical, educational, patriotic, scientific and historical organizations during her lifetime. In her will, she envisioned her home becoming a meeting place and headquarters for women’s organizations dedicated to the enrichment and advancement of women.
Following her death in 1950, the women of Jamestown carried her vision forward. In 1951, the Elizabeth Warner Marvin Community House was established, and 400 women became charter members. For 75 years, the Marvin House has continued that legacy by providing a welcoming place where women and the broader community can gather for educational programs, cultural enrichment, music, social connection, community activities and meaningful conversation.
The Marvin House is an example of E.G.W. Dietrich's shingle-style architecture.
