The Jamestown Public Schools family is mourning the loss of Callie Pellerito, a member of Lincoln Elementary School who passed away recently after a long illness at the age of 52.
Pellerito had served as a reading teacher at Lincoln for the entirety of her career, beginning in 2005.
"We are heartbroken to hear of Callie's passing and are profoundly grateful for her dedication to the students of our community," said Dr. Kevin Whitaker, JPS superintendent. "For over 20 years, she helped give Lincoln scholars a lifelong gift: the ability to read. Her positive spirit and light will be missed by all within our district family who had the pleasure of knowing her. Our thoughts and hearts are with her husband Fred, her son Jack, and all who knew and loved her."
Funeral arrangements have been announced by the Lind Funeral Home. Visitation will be observed on Monday, Oct. 19, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. and a funeral mass will take place on Tuesday, Oct. 20, at 10 a.m. at St. John Catholic Church at 282 Newton Ave., Jamestown. The family has requested that attendees wear purple -- Pellerito's favorite color.
"Callie was a ray of sunshine and an eternally hopeful individual, and showed love to her students and her colleagues alike," said Katie Russo, JPS executive director of information and student services, who previously served as Lincoln's principal from 2013 to 2026. "It was an honor to call her a colleague and our Lincoln and district families will miss her optimism and belief in every student's ability to succeed and achieve. Our thoughts and hearts are with her loved ones during this time."
