ASHVILLE – The Ashville Library will host author Roxanne Smith from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 10.
Smith, an author and artist, has published a book for children titled Welcome to Mouseville: Journey's Quest. Inspired by an encounter with a mouse in her house, Smith began creating the tale of a little mouse who makes his way in the world, meeting help and friendship along the way. As she wrote, she also crafted an entire village for felted mice, made of recycled materials and plenty of imagination.
Children and their adults will be able to view the intricate village and hear an excerpt from the story during her visit to the library. Smith also plans to give a copy of her book to each attending family. At the event, children aged 7 and above will also have an opportunity to learn to craft their own mouse house and will receive a special felted mouse of their own to take home. Younger children will craft a mouse puppet. Festive treats will be provided, as well.
The event, book, and mouse are free, though donations are welcome to support the library’s programs. Registration is requested by Oct. 6 as space is limited for the craft projects. Register by emailing the library at director@ashvillelibrary.com or by calling 716-763-9906.
