WESTFIELD - The Westfield Police Department is investigating fraudulent activity involving unknown individuals posing as members of the Westfield Police Department.
Residents should be aware that scammers may use phone calls, text messages, or other forms of communication to falsely identify themselves as police officers in an attempt to obtain money, personal information, or other sensitive information.
The Westfield Police Department urges residents to remain vigilant and remember:
• Do not provide money, gift cards, banking information, Social Security numbers, or other personal information to an unsolicited caller claiming to be a police officer.
• Do not feel pressured to make an immediate payment or take immediate action based on threats of arrest or other legal consequences.
• Those who receive a suspicious call from someone claiming to be a Westfield Police Officer should hang up and contact the Westfield Police Department directly using a known and verified phone number.
• Those who believe they have been contacted by a scammer or may have been a victim of fraud should report the incident to law enforcement.
