The Mozart Club and the Marvin House recently held a combined program and tea featuring the Mecham brothers titled "The Art of the Duo."
The twin brothers grew up in Jamestown and started their musical education at age 5 with the late pianist, Helga Hulse. In 2025, the twins graduated from the State University at Fredonia summa cum laude.
Currently, they are students at Oberlin College specializing in Baroque violin, harpsichord and organ.
On their two baroque violins, the twins performed the Partita # 6 by Czech – Austrian baroque composer, Heinrich Ignaz Frantz von Biber. A second musical offering was the Corelli Sonata No. 1 in D major. The concert ended with a shorter piece by Biber.
Aaron and Boaz Mecham had just come back from a trip to Europe, which included Italy, Scotland and Israel. They told many amusing tales about their adventures in Europe and especially how they managed to miss their plane back to the United States.
It happened that they were interrogated by the Israeli Airport authorities for three hours with repetitive questions about their violins. This made for an almost loss of their violins and extended their trip to the U.S. to 50 hours with all the delays.
The next meeting of the Mozart club is on Wednesday, Sept. 16, at noon in the Marvin Community House with a musical program by Amanda Andrews, cellist, at 1:30 p.m.
