Chautauqua County 4-H, Nestlé Purina and The Pointer and The Pin have teamed up to offer area youth the opportunity to try the sport of dock diving.
In dock diving, dogs race down a short dock and leap into the water. The dog who leaps the farthest is the winner. The sport has been highlighted on ESPN.
Rich Myers, co-owner of The Pointer and The Pin, will give youth and their dog a one-on-one 30-minute coaching session at the pool. The session is available to dogs and youth of all experience levels.
After they're done at the pool youth are invited to stay for 15 minutes basic doggy manners coaching (called Canine Good Citizen) and 15 minutes of exploring the AKC Farm Dog test with The Pointer and The Pin co-owner Lynndee Nagel.
Youth and their dogs do not have to have any dock diving experience to take part in this experience on Aug. 22 at The Pointer and The Pin, 4795 Route 60, Gerry, and youth do not have to be 4-H members.

Funding has been provided by Purina to pay for new agility equipment for the 4-H program, entries for youth in an AKC Fast CAT event, and educational sessions. Additional upcoming educational sessions are September 24, Dogs with Jobs at the JCC Carnahan Center; Oct. 8, Highlight on Dog Rescue at the JCC Carnahan Center; and Oct. 24, Dog Wellness at the JCC Carnahan Center.
