SINCLAIRVILLE – The Sinclairville Free Library will host summer reading program events in the coming weeks.
From 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, July 27, and Monday, Aug. 10, the library will host Unearth Your Talent: Flower Pounding and Embroidery with local artist Brenda Nickerson. Flower pounding is a fun art that uses a hammer to smash fresh flowers and leaves onto fabric. Embroidery is the art of decorating fabric using a needle and thread. Those attending may also incorporate other embellishments like beads. The designs are sewn directly onto the material to add texture, color, and visual appeal. Applique is a decorative needlework technique where smaller pieces of fabric are cut and fused onto a larger background fabric to form a picture. This is a two-part class with limited seating for ages 12 and up. Each class costs $10 and registration is required.
Unearth a Lego Creation will be held from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 1, and Saturday, Aug. 22, from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The library's Lego dig site is open for junior makers to unearth bricks, build something and take their creation home. The program is for all ages with no registration required.
Unearth a Story: Junior Paleontologist Training Night will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, Aug. 3 and Aug. 31. Young explorers are invited to join the library's Junior Paleontologist Training, a hands-on journey into the world of dinosaurs, fossils and scientific discovery. Each night focuses on a different paleontology skill from excavation and reconstruction to tracking, observation and final analysis. Kids will dig, discover, create, investigate and earn stickers/stamps in their observation journals as they work toward becoming certified junior paleontologists. Visit sinclairvillelibrary.org for more information.
Fun with Flowers will be held at 6 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 13, with an opportunity for gardeners and flower lovers to take part in an afternoon of flower arranging. The group will work to create small bouquets that will be taken to the residents at Heritage Village. Flowers will be provided, but those attending can bring extra flowers from their garden.
Unearth a Story: She Sells Seashells will be held at 5 p.m. Monday, Aug. 24, featuring the story of Mary Anning, the first female paleontologist. The night includes a story, self-guided craft, a tongue twister competition and a seashell to take home.
Unearth a Story: The Last Stomp on Monday, Aug. 31, takes place on the last day of the summer reading program. All junior paleontologists will receive a hat, vest and supply bag. There will also be drawing, snacks and dinosaur activities.
