Benjamin Prescott DAR chapter welcomes new member

The Benjamin Prescott Chapter of the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution welcomed its newest member during a recent meeting.

The opening ceremony was conducted by Regent Myra Johnston and Chaplain Deborah Cenni. The President General’s Message was about Continental Congress, featuring Patti LaBelle in concert in June. The National Defender was about “Sargent Reckless” a decorated mare (female horse) in the Korean War.

Barbara Pietro gave the Registrar Report, with several applications in the works and one sent to Washington for approval and another going out this week.

The Oath of Membership Ceremony was performed for Darcel McLane by Johnston and Cenni. McLane’s mother, who is also a DAER member, father and son were present.

Keri Wendel was elected as vice regent.

A discussion about the chapter’s America 250 celebration was held. The chapter is hosting a display at the Chautauqua County History Day in August. Barbara Pietro, Elizabeth Sedlmayer, Cheryl Smith, Myra Johnston, Linda Kuzara and Megan Austin are meeting again on July 14 to complete the project. The display will be shown at the Patterson Library as well.

Johnston presented a Revolutionary Minute highlighting events that happened in June during the Revolutionary War: June 14, 1775, Flag Day and US Army Birthday and, on June 17, 1775, the Battle of Bunker Hill.

The group has a trip planned to Erie, Pa., to visit the Maritime Museum on July 15, with a stop for lunch. A museum tour and lunch in the Forest Hill Cemetery with founder Jennie Prescott on Aug. 26 On Oct. 11, the chapter will dedicate a Patriot Market at the West Perrysburg Cemetery in Perrysburg, in honor of three Revolutionary Patriots/Pioneers interred there.

The chapter’s Patriot Moment was presented by Sandy Haskins about her Patriot, Capt. Daniel Wolmsdorf. She descends through her paternal line as Wolmsdorf is her maiden name.
