ASHVILLE – Summer reading programs are beginning for most libraries in the Chautauqua-Cattaraugus County Library System.

At the Ashville Library, summer reading brings a chance to collaborate with community groups. Alongside the Busti Historical Society, the Ashville Library is offering a series on old-fashioned toys and games every Monday in July from 2 to 3 p.m. Participants are welcomed to learn about and play the old-fashioned way.

“It’s a fun opportunity to break free of screens,” said library director Kristina Benson.

Victoria Parker of the Busti Historical Society says that artifacts from the Busti Historical Museum will be shared, and that she will be teaching many ways to have fun with activities that range from dancing to gaming.

Ashville Library is also partnering with The Ashville General Store for a reading incentive program. Children who sign up for summer reading at the library will be able to earn pizza toppings for reading sessions to be traded in at the end of the month at The Ashville General Store for a free personal pizza. Store owner Jon Davis said he’s happy to offer the program, saying that encouraging children to read is always a worthy cause.

A Stow Ferry outing is scheduled, and the Erie Zoo will also be visiting on July 10 at 1:30.

Those interested in participating should sign up at the Ashvillelibrary.com website or visit the library at 2200 N. Maple St., Ashville.

Starting at $4.00/week.
