Mayville Senior Citizens Meet
MAYVILLE – The Mayville Senior Citizens members met recently at the VFW in Mayville with 39 members attending.
Dianne Goodrich, Devotions Chair, delivered the invocation. Members then sang “Happy Birthday” to the May birthday celebrants–Wanda Miller, Karen Heston, and Jerry Johnson. Linda Anderson, Goodwill Chair, provided the birthday cake.
After lunch, Dianne Goodrich shared five short stories and then led the group in the Lord’s Prayer and the Pledge of Allegiance. Robin Carr called the meeting to order.
Secretary Darlene Barney read the minutes of the April 25th meeting. With no additions or corrections, Bonnie Johnson moved to accept the report; Linda Anderson seconded; motion carried. Mary Carlson sent a Mother’s Day card wishing everyone a wonderful day.
The Mayville Parade and 4th July Celebration committee asked members for a donation. Treasurer Kathie Sukalac gave the treasurer’s report.
Tour Director, Robin Carr, has several trips lined up for the club, including a June 9 safari and shopping that leaves Mayville at 8:15 a.m. The cost is $129 a person. On June 15 the group will visit the National Comedy Center and Lucy-Desi Museum in Jamestown. The cost is $130 a person. On Aug. 13 the group will travel to the Sonnenberg Gardens and Canandaigua Lady Cruise for $149/person. The group will travel to the Corning Glass Museum on Sept. 16 with lunch for $150 a person. A Sept. 30 trip to the Batavia Downs for $139 a person includes a lunch buffet; matinee show with Frankie Vallie and the Four Seasons. Oct. 10 the group will travel to Christmas In the Shaker Woods in Columbiana, Ohio, for $99 a person. A Dec. 1 trip to Batavia Downs features Christmas Memories with Barbara; a tribute to Barbara Streisand for $139 a person. Dec. 5 the group will travel to South Dayton for the Flyer Santa Express Train and Hamburg for the Christmas Lights Display for $122 a person.
The Kitchen Committee was Rita Himes, Patti Snow and Bonnie Johnson.
New member Rita Meleen was welcomed. Santa for Seniors is purchasing items through Amazon, so monetary donations are appreciated. Lois Richir is very ill; we wish her well.
Door prizes were won by Sharon Frudd, Peggy Skillmam, Fran Miller, and Janet Loomis. The lottery was won by Rita Meleen.
The next meeting is June 4 with the club providing subs so please sign up. Members are asked to bring a dish to pass as well. The group will play bingo with Fred Himes calling the numbers.
For our entertainment Robin Carr, Janet Loomis, Kathie Sukalac and Fran Miller read from the book “You Are Only Old Once” by Dr. Seuss.
