Harmony Senior Citizens To Meet June 4
PANAMA – The Harmony Senior Citizens will meet at noon June 4 at the Panama Methodist Church for a tureen dinner.
Those attending are asked to bring a dish to pass and their own table service. Hosts for the June meeting are Mary Sweeney and Bonnie and George Froman. All area seniors are invited and encouraged to attend.
The group met recently at the Panama Methodist Church with 33 members and guests present. Guests were Scott Lord, Randy Lord and Katy Lord. June Whipple opened the meeting and welcomed members and guests. Cindy McIntyre, Cheer Person, recognized the following members celebrating birthdays in May-Mariom Coffaro, Janice Hinterberger, Marty LaFredo, Margaret Rowley and Ray Wood. Co-Chaplain Mary Sweeney read “New Beginnings” offered the dinner prayer and let the Salute to the Flag. Richard Harper provided spring floral centerpieces.
Following the dinner, the annual Memorial Service was held for members the group lost during the year. Bonnie Froman, co-chaplain, conducted the service for the two members being honored – Elaine Jensen by Sally Hagg and William Sweeney by Mary Sweeney. President June Whipple lit a candle in memory of veterans who have lost their lives and for those currently serving. She also lit a candle for volunteer firefighters. A candle was lit by each presenter and they were each given a white carnation. Cindy Miller read “Ode to a Veteran”, Veteran Fred Russell read “Our Memory” and Ellen Coffaro read “Those Who Are Gone”.
Laurie Russell drew the ticket for the beautiful quilt donated by Bonnie Froman and the winner was Randy Lord, one of the guests at the meeting. The 50/50 ticket was drawn and the winner was Mary Sweeney. A Mother’s Day drawing arranged by Dottie Enlow was held with the following winners: June Matherly, Toni Campbell and Lois King.
Toni Campbell, Activities co-chairperson stated a representative from First House, which is a home for women and their children. The speaker will share details of the program at the July meeting. Members are asked to begin purchasing items needed by the facility, including wash cloths, towels, kitchen towels, twin bedding, and pantry items.
