Grand Dames Chapter Meets In Elma

Members of the Alice Putnam Chapter of the Colonial Dames XVII Century met recently.
Award conditions were discussed and our desire to improve the scholarship opportunities for students looking to enter craftsman occupations. Members will further discuss the entire scholarship proposal at the next meeting.
Member Linda Kuzara presented a very informative presentation on Mary Florence Taney, founder of the Colonial Dames XVII Century. She was the first woman in Kentucky to become a notary public and wrote and published poetry, writing the lyrics to the Kentucky state song. She worked as the first private secretary to the collector of Internal Revenue during the Harrison Administration. She is recognized as the founder of the Colonial Dames XVII Century and is recognized for breaking barriers for women in the arts and the government sector.
