Beekeepers Speak To Panama Senior Citizens

PANAMA – The Panama Senior Citizens met recently at the Panama Methodist Church with 40 members and guests present for a tureen luncheon.

President June Whipple welcomed everyone and co-chaplain Bonnie Froman read ” Easter Sunday”, offered the dinner prayer and led the salute to the flag.

Cindy McIntyre recognized the following members celebrating birthdays in April: Gary Enlow, Dorothy Erickson, Virg Roth, Dorothy Whipple and Tracey Fiorenzo. The following couples were celebrating an anniversary in April: Marion and Ellen Coffaro, and Chuck and Dee Ellis. McIntyre said she had sent a card to Barb Potter.

Toni Campbell, entertainment chairperson,, introduced speakers, Dennis and Laura LaMonica, owners of the Panama Bee Farm and Honey Company.. They presented a program on raising bees and the process of making local seasonal Chautauqua County raw honey produced exclusively from their bees in Panama. Their honey can be purchased at the Ashville General Store and at Lakewood Apothecary.

Vice President Laurie Russell sold tickets for a chance to win the homemade quilt donated by a member. The drawing will he held in May.Karen Hurlburt sold 50/50 tickets and the drawing was won by Wendie Raynor.

Wendie Raynor, secretary, read the minutes of the March meeting. Fred Russell made a motion to accept the minutes as read, which was seconded by Laurie Russell. The motion was approved. Mary Lou Garfield gave the treasurer’s report, which will be held for audit in the fall.

Ellen Coffaro, Senior Council representative, said the next meeting will be held in Panama on June 9. All members are encouraged and invited to attend. Coffee and cookies will be provided. Members are asked to contact Coffaro if they are able to donate cookies for the meeting. The meeting begins at 10 a.m. She also reported on the annual trivia contest to be held at the North Harmony Senior Center on May 14. Individual teams of three to four people are needed. If attending, bring a bag lunch and sign in by 12:30 p.m. The contest begins at 1 p.m.
